Landscape Watering Schedule |
Under current "Year Round Water Management"
provisions, a customer’s watering days are determined by the last
digit of the house number or property address. Multi-unit
properties will use the lowest address number. Customers on rural
routes will use the last number of their post office box number or
their route number if they do not have a post office box number.
Customers at Ft. Phantom Lake will use the last number of their
lake lot. Customers in trailer parks will use the last number of
their lot number.
If a residential customer's last number is: Customer's

Non-residential customers (industrial, commercial, governmental,
public and private schools and universities, etc.) may water on
Mondays and Fridays.

Watering Times
During Current "Year Round Water Use Management" Restrictions |
Watering Times
Any landscape with sprinklers or drip irrigation can be watered
between 12 midnight and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight on designated
watering days.
Shrubs, trees, flowerbeds and gardens may be
watered anytime with a hand-held hose, bucket, or drip system.
Turf may be watered anytime on any day with a
hand-held hose or faucet-filled container of five gallons or less.
New lawns may be watered up to 3 weeks, for 8
minutes at a time during each of the following periods: 11 a.m. to 1
p.m.; 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and at regular intervals
between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. for a maximum of three weeks. Please
notify the Water Service office at 676-6000 when you plan to begin
irrigation of a new lawn.

Landscape irrigation |
Rules for all landscapes with any irrigation
technique during current "Year Round Water Use Management"
restrictions:
- On designated watering days twice a week, 12 midnight to 10
a.m. and 6 p.m. to 12 midnight
- A drip irrigation system may only be used to irrigate LAWNS on
designated days at designated times
Shrubs, trees, flowerbeds, gardens may
be watered:
- Anytime with hand-held hose, bucket or drip system

Personal Vehicle Washing |
Allowed:
- Use hose with on/off nozzles and bucket
-OR- at commercial car wash.
- Water run-off more than 75 feet is not
permitted.

Charity Car Washes |
- Charity Car Washes ARE allowed.
- Water run-off more than 75 feet is not
permitted.
- Use hoses with on/off nozzles and
buckets

|
Refilling swimming pools |
Allowed:
To maintenance level on designated
watering days. |

Ornamental fountains |
Allowed with
recycling device - refill on designated watering days. |
|
Use from hydrants |
Allowed:
- Fire fighting or other public
safety/welfare
- With written approval on case-by-case basis for land
development or construction

Waste |
Prohibited:
- Water running more than 75 feet down gutter or alley
- Failure to repair leak
- Operating a permanently installed irrigation system with a
broken sprinkler head; a sprinkler head spraying over a street or
parking lot because it is out of adjustment

|
Penalties |
- First Offense: Minimum $50
- Second Offense: Minimum $75
- Subsequent Offenses: Minimum $250
- Termination of water service for repeat violations: Reconnect
fee of $250
- Failure to pay penalty: $250 which can be applied to water
bill
- Fraudulent mis-representation of well water use: $500

Other allowances |
- Use of private well water is not
regulated by City of Abilene water restrictions. A "Well Water"
sign that is visible from the street must be posted
- Users with open green spaces may submit irrigation plan to
Director of Abilene Water Utility
